![]() It's like out of nowhere, out of Italian fog, from among old tenement houses... This young project appeared and instantly found free place in Old Europa Cafe. ROMA AMOR... I don't have to explain what it means. But is Rome really city of love? Euski Amor explains the symbolism of this name. "Roma was forbidden to be uttered. There were some secret names of the city: one was Flora, another was Valentia, but most scholars found the secret name to be Amor, which is a two-faced word for Roma. The interesting thing is that also in the Serbian language Roma and Amor are two-faced words: Rim (Roma) and Mir (peace)." ![]() "I don’t know why I feel so jealous of the feeling I experience when I sing.", confesses Euski when I ask about visions and feelings they want to send to listeners through music on "Roma Amor". "I think it is because when I think of music I visualize intimacy, secrecy, something precious, unique. It is difficult to convey the idea of secrecy through something uttered, said, screamed at times, and this is my contradiction and my challenge: all this through a great amount of suffering and passion (pathos=pain)." Another question is about a cover of Jacques Brel "Next". Why did they choose exactly Brel's song as a cover? "When I bumped into a Bowie’s cover of the song “Amsterdam” I wondered who the composer was (that was long ago). When I discovered it was Jacques Brel I felt the urgency of finding everything I could about his poems and lyrics. I also noticed some of my favourite artists published covers by J.B. (Marc Almond, Gavin Friday, Scott Walker…) and that made the thing even more intriguing. “Next” has always have the power of taking out of my stomach the frustration, the anger, the desire of revenge, the call for help I wanted to express. That’s it." And how Euski Amor would encourage people to listen to their music? "From the stomach through heart and brain our music is simple as life. Sometimes in tunes, sometimes out of tune; sad, happy, strong, weak. As life. Enjoy it because it is without pretence to be perfect: it is genuine, like a glass of the best Italian wine sipped in a club where nobody could see you and where you can be yourself.", finishes Euski and I have nothing more to add. Maybe except that this album is really worth attention. Give it a try. Stark info: www.myspace.com/romamorensemble ![]() ![]() |
